Austria Next Year!

We’re just starting our planning for next year’s camp – and we’re thinking about going to Austria.

The dates we’re looking at are Sunday 2^nd to Wednesday 12^th August 2009.

We’ll be stopping in Indoor Accommodation at a Scout Campsite just outside Salzburg. The camp is located next to a warm swimming lake, 1.5 km from the nearest village and 20km from Salzburg itself.

Activities planned include:

Swimming
Canoeing
Rowing
Hiking
Visits and trips
Cycling
White water rafting
High Ropes Course
Canyoning
Hydrospeed

We hope to be meeting lots of Scouts from other countries, and will be taking part in the ‘Environment’ and ‘Friendship’ badges. We’ll be doing a lot of hiking and cycling in the immediate vicinity of the campsite, visiting local attractions such as lakes, swimming pools and villages.

This time we intend to fly instead of using a coach; after last year can you blame us? We’re going for 10 nights instead of the usual 6 nights plus 3 days on a coach, so we reckon we’re getting good value for money.

The fully inclusive cost will be somewhere in the region of £550-£650; this depends on airfare costs. We will probably travel down to Stansted and fly directly to Salzburg; at the moment these are the cheapest fares - over £120 less than flying from Manchester even allowing for a coach hire to and from the airport. If airfares rise dramacticly in the next few months we do have the option of travelling by coach...

We are JUST gauging initial interest at the moment; we’re not collecting money yet! If you are interested in going can you let us know by next ASAP? If we get enough interest to go ahead we will require an initial deposit of £20, followed by another £30 a month later. A payment schedule will follow after that. Places will be strictly limited to 45!

Crewboree

Crewboree 2008

Date: 6^th – 8^th June 2008

The ‘Crewboree’ is an event run every year by Hesley Wood, and this year we will be attending once again. The camp is aimed at Scouts, Guides, Explorers and Rangers – i.e. no pesky Beavers or Cubs!

Rough Programme

Friday – Arrive after tea, pitch tents, search for missing pegs etc, followed by a karaoke and disco run by Hesley staff.

Saturday – full of activities provided by the site, such as climbing, abseiling, archery, zip line, assault course, bouldering wall, orienteering, inflatables, buggies etc. In the evening there will be an ‘Aussie’ themed disco, with prizes for the best fancy dress!

Sunday - a day of competitions and challenges, with prizes up for grabs.

This camp is normally brilliant, as all the activities available would normally cost a fortune, but we are able to run this camp for just £30 (that’s £20 for Hesley, £10 for food) – or if you pay your £10 deposit by the 10^th of April then it will be only £28, as we receive a £2 early booking discount. The fee includes all the activities, camp fees, food etc – everything but for a small amount of spending money!

St. George's Day

St. George’s Day Camp- 25^th – 27^th April

This years St. George’s Day Promise renewal will be during a campfire at Hesley Wood on Saturday 26^th April. The Cubs, Scouts and Explorer sections have decided to make a camp out of this event, with activities for each section. The Beavers will be up at Hesley for Saturday afternoon and evening.

St. George's Day

As you may know, St. George is the patron saint of Scouting, as well as England. Baden-Powell chose him as he felt that the Saint George of legend set a good example of faith, courage and perseverance. St George's day is kept on the 23rd April and most Scouts throughout the country will hold some form of celebration on the nearest Sunday. At these events all members renew their promise, from the youngest Beaver to the oldest Leader (not Kit this time!).

This year we will be joining the rest of our District for a camp fire at Hesley Wood, on Saturday 26^th April.

As a bonus, there are additional activities for all sections.

Beavers: Activity sessions Saturday afternoon, camp fire, then go home.

Cubs: Saturday; take part in District Activity Competition, camp fire, then camp out for night.

Scouts: Camp for weekend. Saturday; work towards Outdoor Challenge Badge, Camp fire, then take part in District Night Hike. Sunday; backwoods cooking.

Leaders: Work hard all weekend, arrive home Sunday afternoon tired but happy, knowing they contributed towards making life a little bit better for a lot of people!

Italy 2007 Reunion

Yes we’ve finally found a date for it! The parent’s evening/report back when we can spend the evening reminiscing on what a great time we had, the stupid comments we made, that fantastic coach we had etc…
When?

Friday 16^th November at 7:30 pm. Please wear your Italy shirt and International Necker.
Where?

Grenoside Scout HQ, Salt Box Lane, Grenoside.
Please feel free to bring along anyone who may be interested in our exploits, we should be finished by 8:30pm.
Bring along any photos you have, hopefully you will receive a CD containing all the photos the Leaders took, plus the ones from the rafting…
